The only survivor of the Three Mothers - three powerful witches who had been shedding blood and terror for aeons - Mater Lacrimarum (the Mother of Tears) has been hiding in Rome for centuries and her awakening triggers a chain of mysterious and terrible events: the Evil is back to cast its dark shadow over the city.

Sarah Mandy (Asia Argento), a young student of restoration, co-worker and love interest of Michael Pierce (Adam James), the curator of the Museum of Ancient Art of Rome, is involved in the escalating and increasingly frantic episodes of violence. Sarah tries to run away but she cannot: the Third Mother is looking for her and Sarah is not aware of the fact that her mother Elisa Mandy (Daria Nicolodi) was a powerful white witch brutally killed by Mater Suspiriorum, the witch from Fryeburg.

Helped by the spirit of her mother, by an eminent esoterism academic, Guglielmo De Witt (Philippe Leroy), and by the Chief Constable Marchi (Cristian Solimeno), Sarah realizes that she has no way out and that she must face the impending threat...

Maybe it was because I was sick, maybe because I've never been a big Argento fan or maybe because I'm easy to please (if it's got buckets of gore), but I really liked this one. Sure, there's bad performances and people doing stupid things, but I'll be damned if I can remember one Argento film without those aspects. It wasn't as stylish as his earlier films, but it's a heck of a lot of fun (and violent!).

Finally finished watching this last night after having it from Netflix for a month. I really wanted to like this more than I did. The beginning seemed very disjointed with holes in the story that I just couldn't suspend. There were some real genuine scares. Excellent bloody death scenes. But for the final film of a trilogy that started with "Suspiria", I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed.

The death scene/gore effects were amazing. The storyline leaves a bit to be desired but as far as horror movies go, it's far superior to most of the drivel out there.

Bloody, gory, sexy, and completely ridiculous. As a fan of (most) things occult and supernatural, I love this! Polanski it ain't, but I've always liked Argento's style. But even though I am completely in love with Asia, I still like Suspiria better.

Edit: After thinking it over for a while I have to mention two things. The extremely fake boobs on Moran Atias were kind of distracting. Isn't this supposed to be an ancient witch? Why is she full of silicone? And I was pretty much in shock at the way in which it ended. It was so abrupt. I'm only taking a half a star off of my score though, because I love the Argentos. I know that's a dumb reason to like a bad movie, but I can't help myself.

I went in with high expectations set so I suppose I was setting myself up for a bit of disappointment. Not a terrible movie, but not really what I'd expected. LOVELY gore, though.
